Mayor’s Government Scholarship

Established in 1997 by the honorable Fred Armstrong, mayor of Columbus, with a gift of appreciation to the city from NTN Driveshaft. The city mayor serves on the Heritage Fund Board of Directors.

Louis A. and Kathy M. Giovanini Scholarship

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Giovanini to provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Columbus East High School. Mr. Giovanini was a coach and teacher at Columbus East for more than 25 years and Mrs. Giovanini was an elementary teacher in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation for 20 years.

Julie M. McKinney Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2000 in memory of Julie M. McKinney by her parents, Roger and Angela McKinney, to celebrate Julie’s love of life and love of the performing arts.

J. Howard Beam Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1994 by Wilma Beam in memory of J. Howard Beam. Mr. Beam farmed in Bartholomew County and served on the Heritage Fund’s Board of Directors.

Harold R. Crawford Memorial Scholarship

Established to honor Harold R. Crawford who passed in 2014. Harold was a graduate of Purdue University in engineering and a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force. Harold was very proud of serving his country and appreciated the education he received in earning his engineer degree. Harold, being a member of Columbus for most of his life, would be honored to offer financial assistance to a fellow Columbus student to receive a valuable education in engineering.

Duane Barrows Scholarship

Established in memory of Duane Barrows, a coach at Columbus High School, who died in an auto accident in 1979. Coach Barrows led the Columbus High School swimming team to six state swimming championships.

Dave Galle Memorial Scholarship

Established by friends, colleagues and family to honor the memory of Dave Galle and his work in our community. Dave was a man of quiet strength and integrity, who treated others with respect and compassion. He also understood the value of education and its ability to improve quality of life. As executive director of the Community Education Coalition, Dave championed efforts to increase availability of quality education in our region, from pre-K through the postsecondary level. His greatest wish was to ensure that students in our region would have the opportunity to pursue education that could lead to well-paying employment, regardless of income, race or background.
